Professor Muhammad Yunus is the managing director and founder of Grameen Bank, which currently operates 1,148 branches providing credit to over 2.4 million poor people residing in 39,857 villages in Bangladesh. Grameen Bank was his creation and he continues to be a strong advocate of micro - credit, arguing that it is only through collateral - free credit, made available in particular to poor women, that poverty can be alleviated. He started the Grameen Bank Project in 1976 and saw it to its completion in 1983, and still holds the post of managing director in the organization.

Eastern Refinery Limited or ERL is the sole country - owned oil refinery in Bangladesh. The Constitution of the People's Republic of Bangladesh is the constitutional document of Bangladesh. It was adopted on 4 November 1972 and went into effect from 16 December 1972. It provides the framework of the Bangladeshi republic with a parliamentary government, fundamental human rights and freedoms, an independent judiciary, democratic local government and a national bureaucracy. The constitution includes references to socialism, secular democracy and Bengali nationalism. It commits Bangladesh to “contribute to international peace and co - operation in keeping with the progressive aspirations of mankind”. The constitution has several controversial elements, such as Article 70, which prohibits members of parliament from voting against their own party.
