সমতট বর্তমান কুমিল্লার প্রাচীন নাম। আবার কেউ কেউ মনে করেন, কুমিল্লা ও নোয়াখালী অঞ্চল নিয়ে সমতট গঠিত হয়েছিল। আবার অনেকের মতে সমতট এর প্রাণকেন্দ্র ছিল 'লালমাই - ময়নামতি' এবং প্রাচীন কুমিল্লা অঞ্চলের নাম ছিল সমতট। খ্রিষ্টীয় চতুর্থ শতাব্দী থেকে (কারও কারও মতে সপ্তম শতাব্দী) দ্বাদশ শতাব্দী পর্যন্ত এই জনপদের বিস্তৃতি ছিল প্রায় ৫০০ মাইল এবং বর্তমান ভারতের ত্রিপুরা জেলা ছিল সমতটের অন্যতম অংশ।

A fixed deposit (FD) is a financial instrument provided by banks or NBFCs which provides investors a higher rate of interest than a regular savings account, until the given maturity date.
